Pregnant after 35

Pregnant with short luteal phase?

Hi ladies,

I was wondering if anyone here has gotten pregnant with an average of a 10 day LP.

I've been charting for the past 7 months and my LP is around 9-10 days. I started acupuncture a few months ago along with herbal pills accu recommended, B6 and a daily dose of aspirin. It seems to have helped a bit because before then I had 6 and 7 day LP cycles but a 10 day one isn't anything amazing!

I'm on a 7 month waiting list to see a fertility specialist but it seems like such a waste to sit here and do nothing for 7 months when there is something obviously wrong (to me at least) with my cycle!

I've read about progesterone cream, vitrex (sp?) and other natural remedies but not sure if anyone has really had any success with them. I've also read the issue could be too much estrogen. I have a regular 27-ish day cycle and I've only had one anovulatory cycle since going off of BCP and that was the month my grandpa passed away so it seems like my cycles are pretty regular.

I know I'm definitely not the only one that's had this issue so sorry if this post is repetitive! I was thinking if anyone has gotten preggo with a short LP than maybe there is hope!

Thanks!

Jessica

Hey Jrtmom! Did you have to get tested at different parts throughout your cycle to determine it was low progesterone? Can I ask how long it took to get your BFP after starting the progesterone suppositories?? Congrats on your little bean! Thanks!!

  • Yes indeed!  I charted for 14 cycles with dd1 - my lp was always 9-10 days (only one month wasn't).  I ended up taking Royal Jelly and B6 (along with a lot of other supplements).  It can happen!

  • Hi.. I have a luteal phase length of 9 or 10 regularly and an average of a 27 day cycle also... I also have a bad history of endometriosis and have been told since early 20'sthrough 30's that I'm infertile.  I didn't take B vitamins or progesterone cream or anything like that.... I read about them a bit too late in the game and my OB's never suggested them. Anyway, I got pregnant with my 2nd child naturally by the 2nd month of trying just like with my first... I have been AMA with both pregnancies... Baby #1 was born 1 month before I turned 38 and baby #2 will be born a couple months after I turn 40. I am proof it can happen naturally even when many odds are against you... Stay optimistic.  Good Luck to you.

Thank you ladies for your feedback. You give me hope! I've never heard of Royal Jelly. I'll have to look it up!

  • I had a short luteal phase too. Mine was due to hormonal imbalance. I took B6 and had two rounds of Clomid before getting pregnant. I was put on progesterone suppositories as soon as I tested positive and continued on them into my second trimester.

I have a 9 day LP too, my first pregnancy I was on the waiting list for the fertility clinic after 6 months of trying, but that month I went to the naturopath and she put me on a restricted diet and supplements to help lower the stresses on my body, and I got pregnant that month (days before my appointment Smile).

This time around I still had the 9-10 day LP, and I got pregnant whilst being not so careful TTA, so it definitely can happen on it's own, I guess it depends on the reason behind the short LP.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • Mine is usually 10-11 days long, and I've gotten pregnant 3 times, and have 2 kids.  I never used progesterone supplements either, although if you're consistently getting <10 days you might consider it.

Oh and - a 7 month wait to see a fertility specialist?!  Where do you live?  Could you go outside your immediate area to see one sooner.  That is an awfully long time.

    Good luck!

Mine was between 9-11 days as well. I had my Progesterone tested and it was normal (I think it was 19 at 7 DPO). I was taking 100 mg of B6 when I got pregnant, and also doing acupunture as well. So a short LP doesn't always mean low P4.. I did/do have high FSH and low AMH (deminished ovarian reserve), so that certainly had something to do with it. I would find another RE, especially if you are older.

Ya, it's tough to know the reason behind a short luteal phase without testing. I've been off BC for 7 months so who knows if that's still messing up my cycle. I'm 35 so that could be it. Who knows!

technigirl - I'm in Canada so it takes a while in the city I live in! This cycle was a weird one. I had a 14 day LP but I spotted for 5 days before AF actually started so that stretched it out. We'll see what this month brings.

jb2rn - Ya, that's how much B6 I'm taking and I'm 35 so I'm right on the edge of advanced maternal age. :-/

Thanks again ladies! FX my cycle holds enough to stick onto a little bean for 9 months!
